Scheduled Keynote Speakers:
- Scott Decker, Ph.D., Professor and Chair, Arizona State University, Criminal Justice and Criminology Department. Dr. Decker earned his Ph.D. in Criminology from Florida State University. His research interests include criminal justice policy, gang violence and juvenile justice. His most recent book, International Handbook of Juvenile Justice, will be published by Springer in September, 2006.
- Brian Gray, Unit Supervisor, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. Brian Gray has been with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department for 12 years. He supervises the Crime Analysis Unit, the Homicide Analysis Unit and the Intelligence Analysis Unit. He implemented the first Crime Analysis Response Team within the United States, providing 24hour mobile analytical support to special operations, organized sweeps, and homicide call outs. He is an instructor in the Department of Justice Crime And Intelligence Analysis Certification program at Cal State Fullerton, University of California Riverside and Cal State Northridge campuses. In this program he teaches the Basic Elements of Intelligence Analysis, Criminal Intelligence Analysis and Computer Applications in Crime & Intelligence Analysis. He also teaches "GIS & Crime Analysis" for the University of California Riverside Geographical Information Systems certification program and is an instructor in the (FIAT) Foundations of Intelligence Analysis Training program.
- Mike Watkiss, Award-winning reporter, News Channel 3. Mike has covered many of the major stories of this generation and has crisscrossed the globe in pursuit of the news. He reported from Ground Zero shortly after the attack on the World Trade Center. He covered the 2000 presidential election crisis from Palm Beach, Fla. He was in the streets of Los Angeles during the Rodney King riots and reported from the epicenter following the deadly North Ridge earthquake. Watkiss was one of the first reporters at the crime scene the morning the bodies of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson were discovered. Watkiss then went on to cover the criminal trial of O.J. Simpson. He also covered the scandals surrounding singer Michael Jackson, Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss and ice skater Tonya Harding. During his career, Watkiss has interviewed thousands of news-makers around the world, including people as diverse as "Night Stalker" serial killer Richard Ramirez, notorious Texas "Pom Pom Mom" Wanda Webb Hollaway and superstar Elizabeth Taylor. A general assignment reporter at News Channel 3 since 1996, Mike Watkiss has also worked as a freelance producer for the televisions shows "Hard Copy" and "Real TV." And for eight years, Watkiss also worked on the syndicated news magazine "A Current Affair." He has an undergraduate degree in anthropology from Stanford University and also holds a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University in New York
- Ron Shreves, LT., LASD RET. – Ron retired in 2003 as a Detective Bureau Commander after 33 yrs. with the L.A. Co. Sheriff’s Dept. He currently teaches Administration of Justice Courses in the California State College system. Ron has participated in and managed many covert operations from the very simple to the extremely complex and has shared that knowledge with law enforcement professionals from around the country. In 2003, he founded Crunch Time Consultant Services to provide distinctive, specialized training to law enforcement professionals and other public safety officials.
