We have just concluded one of the most enjoyable, successful, and (at least for me) memorable conferences in the history of the IACA. Despite this era of economic uncertainty, Mary Kirkwood and her committee managed to deliver the highest attendance in a non-California conference on the IACA's records. All IACA members, whether they attended or not, owe the conference committee a debt of gratitude: in addition to providing four days of excellent training to the attendees, this year's conference strengthened the reputation, knowledge, professionalism, and coffers of this association. I would thank all of the conference committee members (listed below), the Arizona Association of Crime Analysts, and our attendees--many of who paid for their own expenses when their agencies could or would not.
Next year is our twentieth anniversary, and we are gearing up for a big one. The IACA has reached a preliminary agreement with the Center for Problem-Oriented Policing (www.popcenter.org) to hold a joint conference in Arlington, Texas, from September 27-30, 2010. This fusion of crime analysis and problem-oriented policing knowledge and strategies will make a conference worth wheedling, coaxing, begging, and scratching for. This will be a conference to not only attend yourself, but also to bring your officers, sergeants, lieutenants, and chiefs. Start planning for it now!
Best wishes,
Christopher W. Bruce
