Training Opportunities


There are many training opportunities for crime analysis professionals within the state of Arizona. Here is a list of training classes currently being offered. If your agency is offering a class that is not listed here, please contact jennifer.jarosi@phoenix.gov to have it added.

Online Training Classes:

  • Anacapa Web-Based Training (8 hours total)

    This free web-based training is provided as an introduction to Anacapa’s scheduled and on-site courses in intelligence analysis. Upon completion of all three training modules, you may obtain a certificate of completion.

    • Introduction to Intelligence Analysis (1 to 2 hours)
    • Data Collection Tradeoffs (2 to 3 hours)
    • Critical Thinking Strategies (2 to 3 hours)
  • Analytical Investigative Tools (4 hours) (CD-ROM)

    This course provides an overview of analytical investigative tools and techniques. The course introduces the role of the analyst and the analytical process for narcotic law enforcement officers. A brief overview of drugs of abuse is followed by a set of analytical 'tools' including methods for acquiring information, techniques for representing and analyzing information, and an overview of financial investigations.

  • NCCPHP Statistics Training
    • Advanced Data Analysis: Methods to Control for Confounding (1 hour)
    • Analyzing Data (I is for Investigation) (30 minutes)
    • Data Analysis Basics: Variables and Distribution (1 hour)
    • Data Analysis: Simple Statistical Tests (1 hour)


Pen-Link Advanced Class
Scottsdale, AZ

The Pen-Link Advanced Class, “PAC” for short, is for the experienced Pen-Link user who has attended CATS or used our software extensively already, and wants to expand his or her Pen-Link skills. The focus of PAC is to build a set of advanced skills and encourage a way of thinking that helps the user unleash the full power of Pen-Link software. We cover topics like Autoloading Unique Phone Company and IP Packet Files, Case and Database Management, Advanced Reporting and Analysis, Automating the Subscriber Subpoena Process, Advanced Charting, and Case Studies.

Cell Site Intelligence
Scottsdale, AZ

December 13-14, 2011

The Cell Site Intelligence course, or “CSI” for short, is intended for the intermediate Pen-Link User who wants to learn the best-practice techniques of cell site analysis. The focus of the CSI course is to teach participants the methods of gathering cell site location information and how to incorporate that data into their investigation and analysis. The course emphasizes hands-on experience, where students will work in teams to resolve real-life case scenarios. Upon completion of the CSI course, participants will return to the workplace with skills that provide them the extra edge in investigating cases where cell site information plays a key role.

This is an intermediate level course, which means participants must be proficient in Pen-Link v8.2. If you have not attended a Pen-Link CATS (Call Analysis Training School) class or you do not have equivalent field experience, this course is not recommended.
